Striker suffers fractured cheekbone in sickening clash with Scotland goalkeeper

Hungary forward Barnabas Varga is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a fractured cheekbone in a sickening clash with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn during Sunday's Euro 2024 qualifier.

Varga was carried off on a stretcher after the incident, which occurred in the second half of the match in Budapest.

The Hungary team doctor said Varga had suffered a "serious facial injury" and would need surgery.

Gunn was also injured in the collision and was replaced by David Marshall.

Hungary went on to win the match 1-0, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring the only goal in the 88th minute.
